Artist's Description
St. Stephen's monastery is one of the surviving "hanging monasteries" in Meteora Greece. They were referred to as "hanging" because in ancient times the only access was by a large basket raised or lowered by the residents. St. Stephen's is now a nunnery and open to visitors with access via a pedestrian bridge.
